Client and server deployments can be quite tricky or they can be extremely easy. It will all depend on how many devices need to be deployed, where they are geographically as well as network-wise, and the end user knowledge level; and must all be taken into consideration. If it's anywhere in-between 1 and 30,000 devices (client and server); we can assist you with deployment methodologies.
For the local and single home/office deployments, we use what's affectionately known as "sneaker-net"; meaning we use our sneakers to run around and do it for you.
If it's a multi-location and phased approach, we can utilize some of Microsoft's practices around BDD (Business Desktop Deployment) which makes use of SMS (Systems Management Server), SQL (holds the database of devices to be upgraded), USMT (User State Migration Tool) which moves the "personality" of the device from the old machine to the new; being completely transparent for the end user, MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) to monitor the deployment and let us know proactively if there are any issues with the deployment and handles the reporting for us, and a few other internal applications and scripts that assist us during the process.
This can be a major undertaking if not orchestrated properly. If you have any questions about this type of procedure, please let us know and we will be glad to explain the process and different options available. |
